Bird Watching Tours.
If you are "wild about birds" or even if you are not, you will be sure to see many of Uganda's 1000 species of birds. Because of its' geography, Uganda has dessert, savannah, wetland, river and forest species. Many peoples favourites are the Shoe bill stork, Crowned crane (Uganda's other National Emblem), Goliath heron, the brightly coloured Weaver birds, dazzling Bee eaters, Noisy and elusive Touracos, Malachite and Pied kingfishers, Parrots, Eagles and many, many more.
If you are a keen birdwatcher or just have an interest in birds Uganda is a Mecca! Where else in Africa or the world can you travel in a country with just over 1000 species of bird listed!

Crowned Cranes and Hammerkop
This amazing diversity is as a result of Uganda's unique mix of geology, geography and latitude. To the north there are Arid Desert regions bordering Sudan. To the west there are The Mountains of The Moon (Rwenzoris), The Niles and Lakes Albert, Edward and George. This all blends eastward through typical East African Bush Savannah to Papyrus Swamps and the Ankole Grasslands. The southwest corner highlands boast High Bamboo Forest and Three Volcanic Peaks (The Virungas) with high giant alpine flora, associated bird species and the Mountain gorillas.
We know that bird watching can't be rushed, and so we aim to give you a relaxing and rewarding experience. Using a combination of modes of transport, and visiting a number of different habitats, you should be able to enjoy Uganda's Ornithological delights.
Where possible the use of motorised transport at reserves and Nat parks is kept to a minimum and trekking on foot and exploring in traditional dugout canoes causes less intrusion to wildlife and gives better viewing for you!
We do 6 day and 10 day itineraries for this activity. These cover birding hotspots around the country. The extended tour has longer stays at some sites and visits more sites than the shorter tour. Please contact our office for detailed information.
Why not contact us for a tailor made Bird Watching Tour? Choose where you want to go. We will also recommend hotspots and you can choose your length of stay at each one and the order in which you might like to visit them. We ask for a long notice period (at least 3months), as we need to ensure that suitable staff equipment and vehicles are fully at your disposal.
"THE RAINY SEASONS ARE THE BEST. These trigger breeding activity in many species" It usually only rains for a couple of
hours each day then its lovely!"
A major plus is cleaner air and good light
means wildlife and landscape photography can be at their finest. Light Breathable Goretex or similar waterproofs are reccommended.
If you can't face the rain the birding is still outstanding throughout the year..
